One of the main characters of a story I'm writing about the post-soviet eastern bloc, taking place in Moscow, 1999. As basic a description I can give: Yuri is a 28 year old man from Belarus who works at Roscosmos (since 1993) in the Satellite Sector as a technician, developing legacy software for old Soviet satellites. Besides work, he doesn't have much of a life outside his Khrushchevka room.
He lives most of his life on the internet, browsing forums, reading raunchy comics and downloading porn. He would blame his asocial tendencies on his isolated upbringing except he's too much of a narcissit to admit there's anything wrong with him. No one else really gets him, he'd say. You could assume he lived in ignorant bliss of how much of a loner he was but unfortunately, deep down he was quite self aware of his defectivness. He played with calling himself a schizoid. Schrödinger's achiever, both one of the greatest men in the world and a complete failure.
Work was his social playground, when he felt like it. Introverted but happy to talk to people when he was bored, always an experiment, it was psychopathic. There was a time in Moscow state he attempted close relationships with real people but he was just always slightly off when he tried, very off when he didn't. Students are so mean too.
No one really liked him at Roscosmos, too mature for playground bulling now, his opposers just talked where he couldn't hear. With a bad reputation built over years of working there, someone finally joined the team who didn't care enough to talk and learn that Yuri was an untouchable to the average Moscovite. In 1999, Niko Weiss tranfers to the Satellite Sector and peaks Yuri's interest. He at least wasn't like everyone else yet he fit in so well; not that Yuri cared for that life but it was more that he wondered which way Niko would go when introduced to him.
