Hygiene

I've been seeing a lot of Youtube videos about performative hygiene tiktokers and the 'Clean Girl' aesthetic and funny enough, every single one of these videos I've tuned into still manage to have a tangent about unhygienic people or even spend just as much time in the video tlaking about it. I wouldn't care about if their opinions on what counts as 'unhygienic' weren't literally formed around the current status quo of what 'clean' is in a society where companies have a lot to gain from selling people the idea that they need 100 products just to clean their face.

I think a hell of a lot of people would have different opinions on this if they didn't assume everyone around them, who they also consider to be clean, follows the same hygiene routines as themselves. This isn't me saying everyone should change what products they shower with or how often they do it (though I think a lot of people could learn a thing or two about how their hygiene product consumption impacts the enviroment), I just don't understand the instant judgement and assumptions. I, for one, don't use shampoo. That doesn't mean I'm dirty or my hair is greasy. I groom my hair daily and shower maybe every other day but for the most part those showers are just water. And there's nothing wrong with however you clean your hair, if it works for you it works. I think a lot of hygiene politics stem deeply from racism but I'll let you come to that decision yourself.

Laundry is another thing. No, you don't have to wash every single item of clothing after wearing them once. I always found those memes funny that are about rewearing an outfit again the next day but I have a washing machine. I might aswell just embed one into this blog. Is your outfit really going to stink that bad after one wear? I can understand a tshirt or something, I usually wear undershirts so I don't really get that, but a jumper? Your trousers? I'm sure they're fine. It's a waste of water, time and detergent.

But again, you can do whatever you want until you're judging someone who you didn't even think was unclean until you learned about their habits.
